I left my family behind in the countryside and shifted to city to chase my dreams of becoming a popular beautician. But now I think I should pack my bags and go back. At least I was popular there for my work, among few ladies in my neighbourhood. Perhaps that made me think I can make it bigger. But now I am tired of working at someone else’s place. I wanted to own a salon.
I was speaking to Mrs Gonzalez. She was one of my regular clients. She had come for a regular clean up and hair spa. She used to opt for my services each time she came to the salon. I had many such clients there. I was making the hair mask for her. Meanwhile, we were having a normal chat.
Mrs. Gonzalez: “Then why don’t you start one? You are really good.”
Me: “But how will I manage the finances? I hardly have any money except small savings. All I have is just this dream.”(I started applying the hair mask.)
Mrs Gonzalez: “Oh come on, when you have a good mix of talent, dream and passion, nothing can stop you. I know a spa and salon loan provider; they may help you with the business loan. Start small, create your salon website, get known through your business website and keep growing.”
I won’t lie; I was a little hesitant about it earlier. I wasn’t sure if it would really work but I reassured myself- I must give this a try before packing my bag. If it won’t work, I can move back to my home any day.
And today my family has moved with me and I am the happiest person ever. Now I own my dream salon and soon we will have more outlets across the city.
If you too are an aspiring and budding salon entrepreneur, here are a few great tips to become successful:
Get A Loan: You might be thinking whether you would qualify for a loan or not. But don’t worry. Many small loan providers have flexible, eligibility requirements. So it becomes easy for you to fetch a loan. There are several micro-financing companies too that can help you with small loans to get started with your salon business or to help your existing salon grow. Once your business grows and thrives, you can take another loan for improvement and growth. The spa and salon loan providers offer loan amounts that vary from $300 to $1,000,000 depending upon your requirements as well as eligibility.
Identify Your USP: When you establish your own salon business, you need to identify your USP. It can be your unique services that you provide such as natural wax, natural color for highlights, or special pricing for spa treatments, a discounted package pricing or a special offer on Wednesday and Friday. It can be anything that can induce an interest in the prospect’s mind to visit your place at least once.
Set A Price: For your broad range of services, you need to set a price. You can research your local market to know what prices are being offered by them. Now depending upon the level of your services, you can choose to set expensive prices, lower-than-market prices or the same prices at which the market is functioning.
Create A Pleasant Ambiance: Make your salon a soothing place to attract more customers. It won’t involve much spending. Just use cushioned seating, aromatic candles, toned-down lighting and soft music etc. to set an easy mood for the visitors at your salon.
Invest in Your Salon Website: Last but not the least; a strong online presence is critical for any business today. You must have a professional website for your salon business. It allows you to connect with your prospects as well as your clients. They are able to know more about your offerings and services online. They can instantly book an appointment too. Salon websites must be attractive, modern and responsive. The chosen website template should creatively showcase your profile, menu of services, high-resolution images and all other information about your salon in the most optimized way. Beautician Websites have different plans to fit your budget.
I realized my dreams because I walked out of the shell and followed the words of Mrs. Gonzalez- “When you have a good mix of talent, dream and passion, nothing can stop you.”
